Who Do You Think You Are?

"I thank You, High God-- You're breathtaking!  Body and soul, I am marvelously made!  I worship in adoration-- what a creation!" Psalm 139:14 (The Message)

Over a month ago, I became a live-in nanny.  One thing I have been trying to do since I began is to try and learn some things from the kids often.  Children can have a unique outlook on life and on God that I so desire to have.

Yesterday I took the kids bowling.  Both of the boys got the ball stuck some point in our game and we had to go get an employee to help us.  The first time, I didn't mind getting the employee.  The second time, however, I was a tad embarrassed since the instances were so close together. . . I should be able to avoid this problem, right?  Both times we went up to the man, the boys were very straightforward about needing help.  The second time, the younger boy (3 years) marched right up to the man without any hesitation, even though he was chatting with someone else.  I told him that he was bold, and he said "Yeah, I'm bold!"  I'm pretty sure he has no idea what the word bold means right now, but agreed with what I told him just because I'm "Miss Charisse".

The Lord spoke to me through this.  When He calls me bold, strong, brave, courageous, beautiful or whatever, I should believe Him because He is God.  Even when I don't fully comprehend what He is saying, I just need to trust that He is God, He is good, so what He is telling me must be good and true.  This lesson is hard to learn, as I, like everyone else, am continually bombarded with the lies of the enemy trying to steal my destiny, kill me, and destroy my life and the plans that God has for me.  However, I must combat these lies with the truth of what God says.

I'm trying to get to the point where I always respond to God with, "Yeah, I am what You say I am!"  I am learning to trust just because He is God.  He is always right and would never lie to me, so how can I call Him a liar by denying who He says I am?  This is an on-going process right now, and a battle that I will win!

Perspective

"Open my eyes, that I may see wonderous things . . ." Psalm 119:18
Lately, I've been thinking a lot about perspective...probably because I've needed it so desperately.  I have been asking the Lord for Heavenly perspective, and He has been giving it to me over the last few weeks.
My physical eyes often have a hard time focusing on and understanding the big picture.  Sometimes I'll see a photo in which someone else is noticing one thing, but I see a completely different image.  Often, the image that I see is scary because it is so distorted.  So, when everyone else is saying positive things about the photo, I'm left searching for what they see that's so great.  I have to search for a different perspective.  When I look away from the image, rub my eyes, blink a few times and look back at the photo, it usually makes it much easier to see the big picture.
The way I see certain situations is often the same way.  People will tell me how good something is, or will be, and I just don't see it.  I need Heaven's perspective to see the "wonderous things"!  And the way I get Heaven's perspective is by looking at Jesus.
I've always really enjoyed those optical illusion books with pictures of diferent patterns that seem to make no sense at all.  Then, you stick your nose to the page, look at the little dot cross-eyed for 30 seconds, and then slowly pull the book away from your face.  If you keep focused on the dot and keep your eyes crossed, the seemingly chaotic image suddenly becomes a 3-D image of an animal, flowers, or various other images.  Once you blink or take your eyes off of the dot, or if you don't keep your face to the book long enough, the image goes back to the same chaotic photo you started with.
I'm learning that in every situation, I must keep my eyes focused on Jesus so that I can see the big picture.  He knows all.  He knows how every situation I face is going to turn out, even as I am having a meltdown over the smallest thing.  He always has my good in mind.
